Eligibility
Jeffrey Springs threw a live batting practice session on Wednesday.
Fantasy Impact
Springs is scheduled to next pitch in a Rookie-level Florida Complex League game on Monday. He is continuing to work his way back from undergoing Tommy John surgery and is on track to return at some point in the summer.
Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Jeffrey Springs is expected to return sometime in July or August of 2024.
Fantasy Impact
The left-hander underwent Tommy John surgery in May of last season and will miss a significant chunk of the 2024 season as a result. He made just three starts in 2023, dominating to the tune of a 0.56 ERA in his 16 innings of work while he broke out with a 2.46 ERA across 33 appearances (25 starts) in the 2022 campaign.
Jeffrey Springs has resumed throwing as he recovers from Tommy John surgery.
Fantasy Impact
Rays manager Kevin Cash said that Springs mood has been good, which is always a good sign from rehabbing players. He is not expected to be ready until close to the All-Star break after posting a 0.56 ERA across three starts prior to his injury last season.
Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Jeffrey Springs is expected to undergo Tommy John surgery and will be sidelined deep into the 2024 season.
Fantasy Impact
Springs left his last start early due to an arm issue and the worst-case scenario has been confirmed as he will indeed undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the remainder of the season. Springs was breaking out as a fantasy ace this season with 16 innings of one-run ball with 24 strikeouts on the young season but the left-hander is now out until at least the All-Star break in 2024. Prospect Taj Bradley is in line to take Springs' spot on the Rays' roster.
Jeffrey Springs is expected to miss at least two months due to the arm/elbow injury he suffered in his last start.
Fantasy Impact
The 30-year-old will head for additional testing to identify a specific diagnosis, though they expect that it is more than a nerve injury. If it requires surgery, he will probably be done for the season. Given the dominating pitching he demonstrated in his first three starts, he will be hard to replace. Springs can be stashed on the IL by those with space and those in dynasty leagues, but he is droppable in redraft if space is needed. Taj Bradley is in line to replace him in the Tampa Bay rotation and is worth a pickup in deeper leagues.
