MVS recorded 315 receiving yards and one touchdown on 21 receptions during the Chiefs’ regular season in 2023. The 29-year-old will join a reworked wide receiver group that will look to build chemistry with QB Josh Allen.

The Chargers completely reset at WR this offseason, moving on from WRs Mike Williams and Keenan Allen. With a WR room of Joshua Palmer, Quentin Johnston and DJ Chark Jr. — and rookies Ladd McConkey, Brenden Rice and Cornelius Johnson — the Chargers could use further veteran help. Not much more should be expected from Valdes-Scantling beyond vertical field-stretching and occasional splash plays, but it's a role the team could use within a rotation if they sign together.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling has been released by the Kansas City Chiefs. The move saves the team $12 million in salary cap space.

MVS being a cap casualty is not surprising. After the Chiefs brought him in via free agency two years ago he never lived up to his contract cost, catching a combined 63 passes for 1002 yards and three scores the regular season since 2022. The move undoubtedly signals future moves by Kansas City to revamp their wide receiver room. MVS will now try to find a home elsewhere.

Valdes-Scantling has been minimally involved in the Kansas City passing offense of late, finishing with three targets or less in each of the last three games for the Chiefs. The wideout remains best left out of lineups in all formats despite a favorable Week 18 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers ahead.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling was unable to haul in his lone target during the Chiefs' 20-14 loss to the Raiders in Week 16.

Drops and other missed catch opportunities have drastically burdened the Chiefs' offense this season. Valdes-Scantling, a veteran with just 20 catches for 312 yards, can't be trusted and therefore remains off the fantasy radar in all leagues.
